Public Safety: You May Have a Noose
The blinds or drapes in your house may have cords that could create a noose and strangle your child if he/she became entangled. According to Health
Canada
, children under the age of 3 years old are most at risk for strangulation.
Childproof your windows by removing all hazardous dangling strings. Continuous loop cords should be cut, creating two separate ends. Horizontal blinds with inner cords running through the slats should have cord stops that prevent the cord from being pulled out and looping into a dangerous noose. Anchoring drapery cords fully extended in a tie-down wall-mounted device can limit the danger. In all cases, the best scenario is no cord at all. The important rule is to keep all cords out of children’s reach. Keep furniture (including cribs) away from windows to prevent access to window cords.

Eliminate looped pull cords and install tie down devices.
