A Comment on our Safety on the Highways:

Letter to the Editor,

As far as I know, in Ontario the max speed on our highways is 100 km/hr. And in Canada it is 110Km/hr on some highways out west. In any case why doesn't our government step in and regulate the max allowable speed for cars made for Canada . For example, some GM pickup trucks are limited to 160 km/hr. When 160 km/hr is reached, the fuel is shut off (no more acceleration).

Unlike our government regulations imposed before, (seat belts, side marker lights...) this would be no cost to the manufacturer (software control) and would greatly reduce speeding on the 400 series highways, therefore also greatly reducing the amount of revenue generated from these highways.  (Maybe the main reason it is not done.)

I wonder if there is a good argument for not implementing this type of limiting. It seems to me that the 400 series of highways would be a lot safer, after all it is supposed to be about safety isn't it?

Elmer turns 60 this year!

…but he hasn’t aged a day in the eyes of his fans.

Children write Elmer the Safety Elephant every week and his safety programs continue to influence children across Canada in the most positive ways.

Seven year old Caroline writes:

Harmony from Blenheim , Ontario writes:

“Thank you Elmer for the message decoder.  I like Kid’s Quiz.  It is fun.  My mom wants me to bike down the road.  I got a new bike from my friend that is 11 (years old).  He wants me to race him.  Can you help me...  I want a poster of you Elmer.
