President's Perspective

Recently, the CSC Board of Directors authorized a professional review of the Canada Safety Council’s mandate, including objectives, strategies and relevance. The review will include consultation with key stakeholders. Towards that end, if any members of CSC wish to contribute to that process, please submit your input to me, in confidence, and it will be forwarded to the consultant conducting the study. We expect to complete this process before the Annual General Meeting, which will be held Wednesday, November 15, 10:00 a.m. at the Council’s office in Ottawa.

Meanwhile, it is business, almost as usual. Our staff has been especially hard pressed lately, since two positions became vacant earlier in 2006, and Ethel Archard, editor of the Safety Canada newsletter, is retiring October 1. We are proceeding with plans to fill all three positions, hopefully by early fall. I thank all of the committed and competent staff here in Ottawa, and their dedication to providing uninterrupted services and products. And we wish Ethel well in her retirement.

I thank also our hard working Board of Directors who are committed to the continuing and long term success of the Council. They are:

Marc Brazeau, Chair of the Board (Automotive Industries of Canada)
Mark Yakabuski, Vice Chair (Insurance Bureau of Canada)
Tim Kowall, Secretary (Motorcycle & Moped Industry Council)
Richard Page, Past Chair (Richard Page & Associates)
Phil Petsinis, Director (General Motors of Canada Limited)
Derek Sweet, Director (Transport Canada, retired)
Gary Wilson, Director (Laidlaw Educational Services)
Grant Carter, Director (formerly of CSA Group)

And yours truly,

Dean Wilson, President
