Action Needed to Prevent Suicides
In 2001 there were 3,688 reported suicides and 19,424 suicide attempts that did not result in death. More young Canadians die by suicide than by disease or by most other forms of injury.
Many countries have developed or are developing national strategies to reduce suicide and minimize its impact. In October 2004, the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention released its Blueprint for a Canadian National Suicide Prevention Strategy, which is available online at www.suicideprevention.ca. CASP hopes the federal government will take the lead in implementing the strategy.
