Elmer the Safety Elephant's School Bullying Program
"BULLIES NEVER WIN"

Rule #1

The purpose of this program is to help address bullying in schools, playgrounds and in your community. Bullying is a problem that has been around for a long time. Many children have dealt with bullies at one time or another in their lives.

Children need to learn how to protect themselves against the school yard bully without having to resort to unacceptable behaviour themselves.

To reduce or to eliminate peer abuse, we must address the underlying causes that provide the societal foundation that support antisocial behaviour. We must understand how we as adults can help stop the cycle of bullying in our schools and in the community.

THE FOLLOWING ELMER'S SEVEN RULES SUGGEST PRACTICAL METHODS THAT A STUDENT CAN USE IF CONFRONTED BY A BULLY.

Elmer's Seven Rules

1. Be confident. Bullies don't like people who are not afraid.
2. Walk away, get help!
3. If you are being bullied tell a friend, teacher or parent.
4. Be a friend, violence is never a good response.
5. Always stay in places known to be safe.
6. If you see someone being bullied, tell someone.
7. Always treat others the way you want to be treated.

This program is to be used by police and school authorities only.
